Head-heavy rackets generate more smash power but are harder to control and swing quickly, which makes them tiring for new players. An even-balance or slightly head-light racket lets you develop clean technique first, then move to a more powerful frame once your swing is consistent.
Pick a manageable weight class
Badminton rackets are graded by weight class — lighter classes like 4U and 5U are easier to swing repeatedly and are generally friendlier for beginners and players who rally a lot, while heavier 3U frames suit players who already have strong wrist and forearm strength. Authentic or master copy — what should a beginner buy?
As a new player, a clearly labelled master-copy racket is often the more practical choice: you get a similar frame shape and feel to the branded original at a fraction of the price, which matters while you are still figuring out what playstyle suits you. Once you know your preferred weight, balance, and brand, upgrading to an authentic racket becomes a much easier decision.
Do not skip the strings
A great frame strung too tight or too loose will not perform the way it should. Beginners are usually better served by a slightly lower tension (around 20–22 lbs), which gives a larger, more forgiving sweet spot.
